Whole-house water filtration in Seattle

A whole-house filtration system treats water where it enters the home, so every tap, shower and appliance gets cleaner water. We install systems sized to your supply line, with the bypass, gauges and shut-offs that make filter changes easy.

What filtration does for Seattle water

The photo is a system we installed: three filter housings, pressure gauges either side so you can see when a filter is loading up, a pressure-reducing valve, and a copper bypass loop so the house keeps running during a filter change.

What it removes, honestly

  • Chlorine taste and odourSeattle’s water is chlorinated at the source. A carbon stage removes the taste and smell at every tap and in the shower.
  • Sediment and rustFrom old galvanized supply lines, common in pre-1960s Seattle homes, and from the mains after work in the street.
  • Scale protectionSeattle’s Cedar and Tolt water is already very soft, so hardness is not the problem here. If a salesperson tells you it is, be sceptical.
  • Protection for fixtures and appliancesCleaner water means cleaner aerators, shower heads, dishwashers and water heaters.
  • Specific concernsOlder homes may have lead solder or brass. Tell us what you are worried about and we will match the stage to it.

What the installation involves

The system is fitted on the main supply after the shut-off, usually in the basement, garage or utility room. We install isolation valves and a bypass, pressure gauges, and the filter stages your water needs: typically sediment, then carbon, with other stages added for specific concerns. We set the pressure-reducing valve if the house needs one and check flow at the fixtures afterwards.

Why Queen Plumbing

We are plumbers, not filter salesmen. We size the system to your supply line so it does not choke the flow, we build in the bypass and gauges that cheap installs skip, and we tell you what Seattle water actually needs rather than what is in the brochure.

Water filtration questions

Leak repair · Fixture installation

Is Seattle water hard?

No. Seattle Public Utilities water from the Cedar and Tolt watersheds is among the softest in the country. Filtration here is about chlorine, sediment and taste, not softening.

How often do filters need changing?

Sediment and carbon cartridges typically every 6 to 12 months depending on the system and your use. The gauges we install show when a cartridge is loading up.

Will it reduce my water pressure?

A correctly sized system does not noticeably. An undersized one does, which is why we size to the supply line and your fixture count.

Do you install water softeners or reverse osmosis?

Ask us. Whole-house filtration is our standard install; other treatment stages depend on what your water needs.
